Skills that require zero talent are usually the ones that get you the job

Once you reach the interview stage, you will find yourself competing with 3-4 other candidates. Assume that all of you are at least 80-90% qualified for the position. Now, the question arises: How do you set yourself apart from the rest? How can you create a more significant impact? The answer lies in focusing on the skills that require zero talent.

During a job interview, it's not only about the information you present but also about how you present it. Your manner of communication and the way you articulate your responses hold great importance. So, remember to emphasize these skills that are not based on talent but can make a huge difference in your interview performance.

Be on time

Show that you mean business by planning ahead and arriving on time. This is the first thing you can control, there is absolutely no reason to be late. Plan ahead. This will also demonstrate respect for others time and shows that you are reliable and organized. Being early may not make a difference but being late will almost always start the interview off negatively.

Body Language

Confidence, walk in with confidence. Use non-verbal cues such as eye contact, a firm handshake, and open posture can reveal your confidence and self-assuredness. Employers often pay attention to these signals as they indicate how well you may fit into the company culture and interact with colleagues and clients.

Energy

From the moment you walk into the door bring the ENERGY. Be excited to be there and show it. This energy is contagious. Positive energy is something everyone looks for. An employee who brings this daily can change the entire dynamic of a team.

Attitude

A positive attitude can go a long way in how you handle challenges, collaborate with others, and approach your work. Do not bring negative context into the interview. Whether that is toward a former colleague or company…Leave it at home. Employers want team members who can stay optimistic and handle situations with a problem-solving mindset.

Passion

Answer questions with passion. Speak confidently and let your excitement out through your answers.

Being Coachable

You don’t know everything so do not try to convince the interviewer that you do. Go into the job interview with an open mind and a willingness to learn and grow within a new environment.

Being Prepared

Your goal is to turn the interview into a conversation. The research you do beforehand will give you the ammunition you need to do just that. Get to know your interviewer. With all the social media platforms available there are so many outlets to find talking points you can bring up. Know the company you are interviewing with, news articles, new technologies, new innovation etc. Find a common interest and push it.

Be qualified for the position. Majority of the 250 applicates are not qualified.
