Interview Sucess = Preperation
Winning is a choice, Losing is an option.
I've spent some time thinking about this, and what I have come up with is that your mind is not programmed for anxiety until you let self-doubt enter. At some point in your life, you allow this to happen, and from that point on, all you can do is work to control it. So, how do you control it? With preparation. Preparation builds confidence, and confidence turns anxiety into excitement! A lot of things in my life I did without having the time to prepare, hence my mind allowed the fear of the unknown to enter, slowly turning the excitement of what is to come into the anxiety of what may not come.
This is especially true when it comes to job interviews. The interview process can be a daunting experience, full of unknowns and potential pitfalls. But by preparing properly, you can turn anxiety into excitement and increase your chances of success.
Here are a few tips for improving your candidate experience and giving yourself the best possible chance in your next interview:
Do your research. Learn as much as you can about the company and the position you are interviewing for. This will help you to feel more confident and prepared during the interview.
Practice your answers to common interview questions. This will help you to deliver your answers clearly and concisely.
Dress professionally. First impressions matter, so make sure you dress appropriately for the interview.
Arrive on time. Punctuality shows that you are respectful of the interviewer's time and that you are serious about the position.
Be polite and respectful. This goes without saying, but it's important to be polite and respectful to the interviewer, even if you don't get the job.
Sports Minded Analogy
In hockey, a good player is always prepared. They know their opponents, they know the game plan, and they know their own strengths and weaknesses. This preparation allows them to play with confidence and excitement, and it often leads to success.
The same is true for job interviews. A well-prepared candidate is more likely to make a good impression and increase their chances of getting the job. So take the time to do your research, practice your answers, and dress professionally. By doing so, you can improve your candidate experience and give yourself the best possible chance of success.

Many times, HR is unaware of your day-to-day responsibilities. This call serves as an initial screening by HR to ensure you meet the hiring team's requirements. It's unnecessary to share your entire career history with HR. Stay focused, provide detailed answers based on HR's questions, and emphasize the buzzwords from the job description. Remember to be both specific and concise in your responses.

This is an excellent question as it provides valuable insight into the team you're about to join and what it takes to excel. It's important to acknowledge that you won't be selected for every position you interview for. However, if you can gain some information from the process, it's definitely a win. Perhaps the top performer on the team is implementing strategies or approaches that you haven't considered or currently aren't utilizing.
Give a hiring team/recruiting team a reason to continuing reviewing your resume longer than 10-15 seconds.

Recruiters and HR professionals don't perform the same tasks as you do. Their focus is on identifying relevant buzzwords. If they don't spot what they're seeking within 10-15 seconds of reviewing your resume, they'll likely move on. It's crucial to give them a compelling reason to keep reading. Make sure to emphasize the essential skills required for the position in your most recent role.
